Lust of the week: Topshop cut out heels
Are these the perfect summer-to-autumn boots? I love the cut out detail and would be perfect with a skirt or culottes for now, and tights for colder weather. Yup, these Topshop babies have a firm place on my lust list.
Outfit: Split-leg maxi skirt and crop top
Crop top: Boohoo
Maxi skirt: ASOS
Heels: ASOS
Clutch: Whistles
Cuff: Market find
If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that I went up to York races last weekend, and this is my full outfit from the day (people in the background not included!) I'd planned on taking a few more photos later on when it wasn't so bright and I wasn't squinting so much but let's just say countless bottles of prosecco were consumed by me and my friends so it completely slipped my mind (and I probably would have looked a bit squiffy!)
It was a surprisingly warm and sunny day (until the heavens opened, that is) so I took full advantage and wore a split-leg maxi skirt and crop top. As for accessories, I'm not really one for a fascinator so I kept it pretty simple - especially as the skirt is quite a statement in itself.
Outfit: What to wear to a casino*
A couple of years ago when I was travelling on my ‘gap year’ between graduating and entering the world of work, my boyfriend and I spent a few days in Las Vegas. A welcome break from hostels and shared bathrooms, we booked ourselves into a plush hotel with a bed bigger than most rooms we’d been staying in and fully immersed ourselves into the Vegas way of life. This meant gorging ourselves on the buffets (and I wondered why I came home half a stone heavier...), then waddling our way to our hotel’s poolside before spending our evenings in the many casinos and generally soaking up the city in all its tacky glory.
Having not really frequented casinos in the past (I had
visions of them all being a bit grim and depressing) I wasn’t really sure what
to expect but we actually ended up finding it really fun (the free drinks that
came round helped), and the same can be said for some casinos in the UK.
If you’re anything like me and you’re going to an event, a
night out or simply anywhere new, the first thing on your mind will be ‘what do
I wear?’ At casinos, most people make a little effort; if you have a look at the online casino* web sites most stipulate a smart casual dress code.
Lust of the week: ASOS wide leg culottes
It's no secret that I'm a culotte lover so the fact that they're being carried on into A/W is good news to me. I am loving these ones from ASOS - the tailored shape and split hem makes them great for dressing up for evening, while they can still be worn with flats and kept casual like they've been styled here. Perfect.
Outfit: Fedora, mustard shirt and skinny jeans
Fedora: Topshop (similar)
Shirt: Zara
Jeans: Topshop
Clutch: Whistles
Flats: Zara
An outfit for walking around Shoreditch last Sunday - we went to Andina for brunch; it serves Peruvian tapas and was unreal. Some of the best food (and Pisco Sours) I've had in a while so if you're in the area definitely check it out! Again, I'm trying to dress for the ever-changing weather and also starting to shape my new season wardrobe - I love mustard and it's a colour I always associate with A/W.
Outfit: White tee and ripped jeans
Top: ASOS
Jeans: customised Topshop (similar)
Bag: H&M
Sunglasses: Primark
Heels: ASOS (similar)
I'm finding it quite hard to dress in this weather - our British summer seems to be ending (it was good while it lasted, eh?) and it feels like we're making the transition to Autumn...although the London tubes are still moving sweat boxes and when the sun does pop out it is actually pretty warm. Gaaah. So I've been covering up a bit more while still trying to wear things that will keep me cool when it heats up - this outfit is a perfect example.
Lust of the week: Topshop burgundy backpack
I love burgundy for A/W and it seems to be a strong colour again this year. The backpack trend also shows no signs of going (a fact I am very pleased about) so I am loving this new offering from Topshop. Plus, at £34 it's a nice and easy way to update your wardrobe this season.
Outfit: wide leg trousers and shirt
Blouse: Zara (similar)
Trousers: LOVE (similar)
Heels: ASOS
Like an all-black outfit, you can't really go wrong with an entire white look - especially in summer. I love these wide leg trousers - they've proven to be really versatile (you may have seen them pop up in a few of my previous posts!) and are really light and airy, making them perfect in the heat.
Outfit: Belted printed kimono
Kimono (worn as dress): Boohoo
Belt: Vintage (similar)
Rings: Various markets
A bit of a different look for me today but there's something about summer that wants me to embrace bohemia and become the next Olsen. I've seen loads of bloggers looking gorgeous in kimonos this summer and am loving the longer lengths so wanted to try the trend; this one from Boohoo was £20!
Anyway, when I got it I realised it had enough fabric to be wrapped around, belted and worn as a dress - a bit of tit tape and you're good to go (being small chested was an advantage!)
Lust of the week: Zara oversized khaki jumper
Earlier this week I popped into Zara to have a look at what the A/W collection has to offer (all in the name of research, of course). As always, it was fabulous and I want EVERYTHING. One of the many things that caught my eye was this khaki oversized jumper. I love a big cosy jumper and, to be honest, have been missing wrapping myself up in one this Summer (I'm sure I won't be saying this come Winter!) I'm also really liking the military trend so this jumper is a double whammy; one that will definitely be making a welcome appearance in my wardrobe come A/W.
Outfit: Culottes, leather top and statement heels
Top: Zara
Culottes: ASOS
Heels: Kurt Geiger
This has been a pretty staple outfit for me the past couple of months; these jersey culottes are so comfy and are light enough for hot city weather. I've been wearing this with flats for the office, and pairing it with some statement heels for the evening.
Outfit: H&M 's 'Stella' drop waist dress
Dress: H&M
Heels: Zara
Ring: Lola Rose
I swooned when I first laid my eyes on Stella McCartney's nude Campbell dress...and crossed my fingers that the high street would soon come up with a similar offering. H&M has done a very good copy in this dress.
I know it's naughty when the high street unashamedly produces copies right off the catwalk, but it also means that us mere mortals can wear beautiful pieces that we would otherwise be unable to afford. This dress feels a lot more expensive than it was and I can see it taking it right through to winter this year.
