The Haircut

If you follow me on Instagram you'll know I've had a bit of a dramatic change recently. Well, dramatic for me anyway - after years of long hair I chopped it all off, ready for a much-needed change and release of all that weight that was dragging me down. It's safe to say that I love it (thankfully - there's nothing worse than swallowing back the tears and trying to feign happiness in the hairdressers after a dodgy cut) and it's left me wondering why I haven't done it much sooner.

But, back to clothing. I've been reaching for navy a lot recently, mainly because I want something slightly softer than black in the summer months and this new Mango blazer (a snip at £30 in the sale) is pretty much forming the basis of all my outfits at the moment.

The Navy Tunic

Sunglasses: ASOS
Necklace: COS (similar)
Tunic: House of Sunny (similar)
Jeans: Weekday
Shoes: Zara

Ever have one of those pieces in your wardrobe that you love but just never wear? This House of Sunny tunic is that item for me. I've had it for about two years and probably worn it twice in that whole time (I think it's the slit and the fact it's lacking sleeves) but haven't been able to part ways with it.

I've managed to find love with it again though, wearing it backwards over jeans to avoid that awkward midriff-bearing situation. And it's firmly back on my favourites rail again.

Elevated Basics

Sunglasses: ASOS
Scarf: Hermes (similar)
T-shirt: c/o Barbour
Jeans: Weekday
Clutch: Etsy (similar)
Flats: Zara

A rare sunny day in Manchester called for a couple of weekend staples (blue jeans, white tee - the softest - from Barbour), made a little bit more special with a couple of additions. I bought these Zara flats last week and they were well worth the buy - the leather is buttery soft, which together with the cut-out opening at the top, makes the basic flat that slightly more elevated. As an extra touch, I added this red and white silk Hermes scarf, tied down the back for a simple yet effective statement.

Tunic over Trousers

Sunday, 2 July 2017

Dress: Zara
Trousers: Zara
Shoes: M&S

A classic 'me' outfit: dress over trousers, flat backless mules and a loose silhouette. But sometimes you can't really go wrong with the classics and there's a reason you keep coming back to certain looks and items time and again, so I'm not complaining that I have a bit of a style uniform.

I've been trying to cut down on buying new clothes recently (although truth be told I've been rather uninspired by what's on offer at the moment) but this Zara dress was a bit of a no-brainer. It's one of those pieces you can wear on its own, or layered, as I've done here - and I'm all about that cost-per-wear.
